The Galette des Rois
The galette des rois or King Cake, named in honour of The Three Kings, is traditionally eaten in France, although versions of it are popular throughout the world. Baked with puff pastry and frangipane, the French galette hides a “fève” (porcelain figurine) and the person who finds the fève then becomes king for the day, sporting a golden cardboard crown.
The “galette season” traditionally starts on Epiphany (Twelfth Night) ie 6 January and any excuse to eat it must be found! We recommend heating the galette and eating after a hearty dinner, with friends for tea or even in secret at breakfast time.
